August in review...

So, here I am on the last day in August only making my 8th post for the whole month! How sad...It is only fair to say that I expected this month to be a crazy one. I had soooo many hours that I had to work, along with continuing to work on the house, starting a new school semester, as well as seeing my FIL off to another deployment, just to name a few things that happened in August. Also, a fair warning...I feel that this is going to be a totally reflective, rambling, all-over-the-place post. More for myself than anyone else, but here goes.

This month I have really struggled with working the night shift. I have been working nights for 2 1/2 years and always have my doubts once a year or so, but then I just suck it up and get over it. Unfortunately, thats not happening so easily this time : ( I love some things, well most things about working nights, it's just that my body is really on a daytime schedule. I notice a huge change on the weeks that I have several days off in a row. I sleep better, eat better and have soooo much more energy. I thought I would never say this, but I'm afraid that I have turned into a morning person...eek! With this all being said, the possibility of me moving to day shift is nonexistent, for several reasons. So, basically I am just venting and by doing that, hoping to motivate myself to become in better spirits about working nights. I mean, I am totally blessed to even have a job, right!? Moving on...

Our DIY house projects are going well. Now that the floors are finished, we are still working on totally completing the living room before moving on. This past weekend we painted the living room and hallway and are currently in the process of changing the window treatments. We have purchased crown moulding for the room and as soon as we find the time to install it, we will be about 95% finished with that room! YAY! It has taken a long time to work on this room, but it is definitely the biggest in the house, by far so it will be a huge task behind us when it's finished : )

A very positive thing that happened this month was that Mikey and I finally joined a sunday school class : ) We have been attending our church for a couple of years now and became members a few months back, but never made the commitment to a sunday school group. I was a little nervous about it (don't know why...), but turns out we love it! Everyone in the class is sooo welcoming and very sweet! The class teacher and his wife invited us to lunch with them Sunday after church and we had a great time. I can't wait to grow closer to the Lord and to these people in our group. This is definitely a great thing for us : )

Also, I have made a little time to cook some new things this month. So far, everything has turned out great! Maybe soon, I can sit down and share the recipes, although all of them are borrowed recipes anyway so they might not be new to you guys, ha! And my addiction to Whole Foods has only gotten worse as I have broadened my cooking horizon...oh no...

So, now that I have just rambled on about some of the happenings in August, I know that I am definitely MORE than ready to welcome the month of September! September is an awesome month! I mean we have Mikey's birthday, fall weather starting to show up a little bit, thoughts and smells of fall foods and treats and of course, football!!! Just to name a few. We were hoping to sneak off for a relaxing weekend in the mountains this month, but not too sure if that's still gonna happen. However, no matter what happens this month, I am making a pledge to myself right now. I am going to slooooow down some this month and just enjoy life!

"F" for effort

Please excuse my blogging hiatus. I have sat down several times this past week to post, but just didn't feel like I had much to talk about. I have to be totally honest though and tell you that I have wanted to enjoy every. single. second. possible with my hubby lately rather than take pictures and blog. Nothing against my bloggy world but I love him dearly. And I miss him lots due to our terrible schedules : ( But enough of the mushy, mushy... A few updates...

Really not much has been going on lately. We traveled up to Tennessee a couple of weeks ago to say a "see you soon" to Timbo (Mikey's dad) as he left for yet another deployment to Afghanistan : ( This is never, ever fun at all, but we are super proud of him and what he is fighting for. However, we are really excited for the day he retires and doesn't have to leave us anymore : )

On a different note...I loved my photography class that I talked about HERE, but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to practice and put any of my new skills to work yet. Hopefully soon though.

We took a break from our DIY house projects for a little while. However, we are having withdrawals so I think we are diving back in this weekend : ) We are going to work on completely finishing the living room. This doesn't involve anything major. Just painting, a little decorating and possibly some crown molding. Also, I really promise that I am going to post pictures of the hardwoods in the kitchen too. I have just been ignoring it...I don't really know why, just lazy I guess. Hence, the title of today's post.

And, we finally joined a sunday school class! Even though our church has like a hundred different sunday school classes, we didn't have much of a choice due to Mikey's stupid schedule. Thankfully, we loved the class!!!!! Everyone there was so welcoming, sweet and the whole mood was totally relaxed...just like us : ) I can't wait to go back!

Lastly, I hate wishing time away, but...I thank the good Lord above that August is coming to an end!!!!! Woo to the Hoo!!! I have been working my little tail off and I am sick of it...Not only work though, this has just been a crazy, busy, bizarre month and I am just ready to relax and watch some college football!!!! Can I get an amen!?!?!? And maybe a ROLL TIDE : )

I need a VACAY!

I mean, who doesn't!?!? We have been SO wrapped up in school and work and school and working more that we never get to enjoy life anymore. Or, at least that's how I feel : ( We have been summoned at work to mandatory overtime...yuck! And then of course they tease us further offering an incentive to work even more hours...(tricky, i know...) So, of course I couldn't turn that down and signed up to work like a mad woman this entire month. Granted, I will be happy when I get that paycheck, but right now that seems so far away. As does a night off...

So, I've been thinking how badly Mikey and I will need a vacay after this school semester ends in December. I just dream of laying in a very sunny place...on the beach...with a sunset...and sand...and chilled beverages...okay, okay I'll stop. But you get the point. So where shall we go?

Of course this is probably is just some huge dream of mine that will most likely not happen, but I'm all about dreaming tonight to make myself feel better...I'm thinking...

DIY Hardwood Floors - The Reveal: Part 1

We have floors again!!!!! WOOT! WOOT!!!!! And they are gorgeous floors, if I may say so myself : ) After working lots of loooooong hours and nursing blistered hands and aching backs, our very hard work has paid off : )

Looking back, the fact that we thought we were going to remove molding, tear up two different types of flooring, clean the floors, and lay 600 square feet of hardwood flooring in 3 days is pretty comical. HA! Actually, it's really comical! That just proves we had no idea what we were getting in to. Honestly though, I didn't think it was all that bad. Granted, Mikey did three times more work than I (but DON'T count me out completely...I had blisters too...), we both agreed that we would not be nearly as happy with the result had we paid someone to do it for us!

We have known for a while that we like to do things ourselves, but through this project I know we both realized that we are true DIY-ers! I love the fact that this project was our first "major" house project together, I love how it turned out, and I love that it gave us new found confidence in ourselves : ) Now, we are ready to take on the whole house!!! Except for anything electricity related... but that's a whooole other week posts. Let's just say that Mikey was not destined to be an electrician, ha! ; ) That's okay though because he sooooo amazing at everything else!

We still have quite a few improvements we are planning on making in the living room and kitchen. Well, actually throughout the entire house, but I definitely want to go ahead and post pictures of the floors! When I finally get everything just how I want it (could be a while...) I will post "before" and "after" pictures. So.....without further adieu, I give you our new & improved, beautiful we-installed-them-all-by-ourselves floors!!!! Hope you like!!! I know I do : )

P.S. This is only the living room, hence the "Part 1" of the title...

The kitchen isn't quite ready for pictures yet. Hopefully soon. We still have to move our china cabinet and such back in to the kitchen. Also, I am going to post "before-and-after" photos so you can see side-by-side comparison. Unfortunately, I have a super busy week ahead of me. I am already back at work for 4 more nights, then will be heading out of town as soon as I get off Thursday morning. So, I'm not sure when I will be able to post again. Hopefully within the next couple of days, but if not...I will be back next weekend!

Have a lovely week : )

Happy Birthday to ME!

Tomorrow I get to "redeem" my birthday present : ) I finally get to put this baby to good use...

I am super excited that I finally get to attend the photography class I have been wanting to go to!!! I am a little worried that I won't learn everything I want to, but I'm so ready to check it out! I have been interested in photography for a long time, but just never took the steps to advance my skills...not implying that I have any skills. I am quite ridiculous at the amount of pictures I take (I believe anyone in my family would back me up on that...) but hopefully after my class and little bit of studying I can take lots of better pictures!

So, I've got my battery charging, my SD card cleared, and my supplies packed for tomorrow : ) Wish me lots of luck and learning!

Tonight, we treated ourselves to an easy take-out dinner from one of our favorite local places since we have been working so much and so hard this week. And also, because we have absolutely no groceries. We decided to let the pups ride with us to pick up dinner and of course they LOVED it! However, we looked a bit crazy I'm sure with 3 dogs hanging out both of the windows on one side of the car, ha!

Sorry for the delay

I am so sorry I haven't been able to post lately. Especially since I have awesome new floors to show you! I am working double overtime the entire month of August, so I am sure that I won't have much time at all to blog about this month...or anything to blog about since all I will be doing is working...blah. Anywho, I promise I am going to take pictures of the floors as soon as I can. We don't have the kitchen put completely back together yet anyways.

I have only Friday and Saturday nights off this week before I work 4 more nights and then we are headed to Tennessee to say a temporary good-bye to Timbo (my FIL) before he deploys to Afghanistan again : ( I WILL get the house completely cleaned and put back in order Friday night, takes some pictures and hopefully get a post up with pictures of the floor and a post about my birthday. Then, I have my birthday present to attend Saturday (I will explain in a later post...)! So, as you can see, lots on the agenda for 2 short days!

For now, I have a sneak peek of the floors for ya : ) It's not a great picture, but it is the ONLY one I have on my phone since the floors were finished...

Please ignore the crazy dog who looks like he is playing dead...he's just sleeping...I know, he isn't right!
