Quick Update

Oh I am so behind in the blogging world...

I know I have done a terrible job of keeping you updated about our DIY bad. I just have had so much (and still do...) to cram into my few days off before starting to work like a crazy person. The floors are completed in the living room!!! YAY!!! I haven't taken any pics yet, but I am hoping to before the weekend ends.

On top of working and finishing up the school semester, my birthday was yesterday and we stayed up late yet again to work on finishing the floors in the kitchen. We are working ALL day tomorrow to FINISH these floors!!!! This project has taken a whole lot longer than we thought it ever would, but they look SO awesome : ) I can't wait to share pictures!

For now, I must clean, make a grocery list, and hit up Wal-Mart all before getting ready for my belated birthday dinner tonight at Stix! Y-U-M-M-Y!!!! I should get busy! I promise you updates soon!

Happy Weekend!

DIY Hardwood Floors - Days 6 & 7

Day 6

So sorry I haven't been able to post the last couple of days. Unfortunately, we had to return to work Saturday putting our beloved hardwoods on hold : ( I never had the chance (or energy, to be honest...) to take pictures Saturday of the work we did for oh, say...14 hours Friday. But it basically looks the same. We decided to get the living room finished before continuing to work on the kitchen so we could at least have one room put back together. Friday we got half of the living room finished and the hallway completely done! YAY!!! But...we still had lots left. BOO!!! I was pretty bummed we had to quit working on our floors and return to our real jobs...SO lame...

Day 7

So this brings us to day 7. Being the most wonderful, bestest hubby E-V-E-R...Mikey stayed up until 3:00 this morning working on finishing the living room!!! : ) I am still at work so I haven't got to see it yet, but I am dying to get home and check it out!!! It's not completely finished yet because he couldn't cut the wood in at 1:00 a.m. (thought that might annoy our neighbors just a little...) but it looks very close to being completed!!! YAY!!! YAY!!! YAY!!! He sent me these two pics from his phone. They aren't the best but they are the most recent pictures. Hopefully, I will have time to snap some before work this afternoon.

Better pictures to come!

Happy Monday!

DIY Hardwood Floors - Day 5

Not much time to blog today. Just jumping on here quickly while Mikey is outside cutting some of the boards. So last night was rough : ( We had this one super stubborn board that would NOT go in place!!! That one board set us back over an hour. Needless to say we didn't get nearly as much accomplished as we planned. We stayed up until 3:30 this morning getting as much done as we could until we had to go to sleep.

We planned on getting up pretty early but of course that didn't happen,  ha! I am happy to say that today is going much better though : ) I just wish we had more hours in a day. Looks like we won't be finished until next week...oh well...I am just praying we get the living room finished tonight, but even that looks grim.

Well, back to work. Here are pictures from what we got done last night.

DIY Hardwood Floors - Day 4

We actually have some hardwoods down! YAY!!! Last night we were able to get started on actually installing some of the floors : ) We didn't get started until late afternoon because I had to work Tuesday night and then sleep, of course, but we have made some progress. There were a couple of small challenges at first, but being the "professional hardwood floor layers" that we are, we now have it all under control, ha!

However, the process is a sloooow one for sure! We are hoping to be finished tomorrow night...I don't know though ,we have lots left! I wouldn't be in such a hurry except that our house being a complete and total mess is driving me CRAZY!!! We won't get to work much on it today because Mikey has class and work until 9:30 tonight : ( Although I am 100% confident that I could work on the floors myself while he is gone, I doubt he is that sure of should really have a little faith babe, ha! : ) But we have all day and night Friday to work.

I only snapped a couple of pictures last night because at this point all the pictures would just look the same. Although we don't have a whole lot of the floor down yet, I do LOVE it!!! It is going to be so pretty : ) So here are some pics from last night...

Being the overly sentimental person that I am, I wanted to put our mark on the foundation outside our bedroom : )

When we first started...

About 3 hours later, ha! (told ya it is a slow process...)

We might could go a little faster if we could get these guys to help...

DIY Hardwood Floors - Day 3

I was not able to participate in the floor stripping activities last night and today because I was working : ( But I do have some pictures of the living room without the carpet or tile. Last night Mikey ripped up the area of tile right inside the front door. I am SO happy to see that go!!! It thought it was so ugly! This afternoon he rolled up the carpet and padding and out the door it went : ) Since this carpet is practically brand new being that we have only been in the house 8 months and we never wear shoes on it...we were happy that our neighbor wanted it for someone : ) We really didn't want to waste it!

So here are the pictures of what our living room is looking like as of now...

Sorry a couple of these turned out too dark, but there's really not much to see as you can tell, ha!

This is what poor Mikey will be using tonight...

Since we now have nothing left on our floors, he will be using this "Krud Kutter" to get our foundation "spick & span" ready for our new floors : ) Bless his heart! I am with you in spirit tonight babe, ha! Needless to say I am super excited to get off work in the morning and get to work!!! Can't wait to see the finished product : )

DIY Hardwood Floors - Day 2

WOWZER!!!!!! And I thought ripping up carpet and tack boards from the foundation was hard!!! That is NOTHING compared to removing linoleum. O-M-G!!! I'm just going to be blunt and honest with you about SUCKS!!! Okay, just had to get that out there...

So, last night was Step 2...(check out yesterday's post if you need to be filled in) We had to tear up the linoluem from the kitchen floor = pretty easy, but then we had to scrape all the lining and glue from the conete = really HARD!!! It took a while, we are both exhausted, sore and have blisters on our hands but...Step 2 is COMPLETE!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!! I couldn't be more happy about that!

So here are some pics from day 2...

This gives you an idea of the floor before we "retired" it...suddenly it looks nice to me, ha!

The linoluem is up...well, the first layer!

This is torture work! Prisoners should be made to do this all day every day for the rest of their's that bad!

Scraping up ALL that white stuff that covers the WHOLE kitchen...again NOT fun...

Excuse this totally rough, totally unflattering picutre of me! But, I needed proof I sweated too, ha!

Mikey thought he needed a picutre of me wearing the knee pads, silly boy!

So after 5 hours of hard work, this is what my kitchen floor looks like now...

Pretty, huh!? HA!

I am hoping the hardest part is behind us. It looks like it will be Wednesday before we start laying the hardwoods, just because of work getting in the inconveinent, I know! The hardest thing to me is that the kitchen and living room (the 2 rooms we are always in) are such a MESS!!! And there is nothing I can do about it. I know it's just part of the process though. And in 2 short days I will start to see my dreams of beautiful hardwood floors coming true : ) I can't wait!

DIY Hardwood Floors - Day 1

And so it begins...

Our journey to beautiful hardwood floors that is! Last night we started the process. A messy one [process] too! It was pretty "nerve-wracking" for me, for Mikey...not so much. That "no turning back" feeling hit me hard as Mikey just took an "Exacto" knife all the way across our carpet shredding it. Liberating/exciting for him...scary for me, ha! I am super excited about the end product but knowing that my house will be in total disarray for the next week is making me pretty uneasy. However, I am excited about Mikey and I working on this project together and I know it will be very fulfilling in the end...assuming we are still married at that point, ha! No way, i'm totally kidding!!! We actually worked great together last night : ) Anyway, here is what has happened so far...

Step 1: We cut/ripped up the carpet in the living room [insert LOTS of grimacing and nervous expressions from me]. We then had to remove the "tack" boards that the carpet was stuck to. They were nailed into a concrete foundation = NOT easy! However, step 1 is complete : ) Yippee!!!

Step 2: Remove the linoleum from the kitchen floor. I thought removing the tack boards from the foundation was a pain, but it looks like that's going to be no comparison to this linoleum : / This is going to be tonight's project...oh boy...

Hopefully, the floors can start being put down in the living room tomorrow, but that all depends on how tonight wish us luck! And if anyone out there has any tips regarding this project, feel free to share : )

Have a lovely Sunday afternoon : )

It has been such a whirlwind around here lately! And it doesn't look to be slowing down too much in the near future either. We are both wrapping up the summer semester of school, trying to complete all the last minute papers, projects and other annoying things teachers cram in at the end of a semester. Then we only have a couple of weeks off before the next semester

Anyway, thought I would have an "update" post since I have gotten so behind on blogging. So, just for a few updates in our household...

  • I have finished my desk that I was took some trial and error but it looks pretty good I think! It's been finished for some time now, but just haven't had a chance to take pictures of it...
  • We do have a covered patio outside now! Again, haven't had time to get and take pictures but hoping to sometime this weekend...i LOVE it by the way : )
  • So if you remember this post where I couldn't decide which "big" house project to tackle first...a decision has been made...and the choice was...drumroll please...HARDWOOD FLOORS!!!!! It was a hard decision. We looked at washers & dryers for hours at every appliance store in Birmingham last weekend and I finally decided to go with the floors. I thought that they were more fun than laundry, ha! I couldn't be more excited, but nervous at the same time! This is a huge project we are taking on...oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we are installing them ourselves, ha! shall make for some great entertainment and blog posts I'm sure! I will definitely be taking all of you on our journey so don't you worry...stay tuned
  • I bought another pattern so I might be embarking on my second sewing project soon : )
So maybe I didn't have as many updates as I thought. I just felt like there has been so much undocumented these past couple of weeks, but I guess not...At any rate, you now know what's been going on in the Coop home lately and what is upcoming.

Happy Weekend!!!!

Our 4th of July Celebration

I realize this post is coming over a week late, but I have been waaaay too busy to even log into Blogger lately : ( However, I think I am finally getting back on track. I have lots of blog reading to catch up on, but since I get back to work starting tonight I plan on catching up these next couple of nights. So, rewinding back to the 4th of July, here is what we did...

We are lovers of wine but we are also two broke people who are full-time students living paycheck-to-paycheck, ha! So, when I found out about a local winery who throws a "Music & Fireworks in the Vineyard" celebration every month throughout the summer, we were sold! July's celebration happened to be on the night before July 4th, so it was perfect : )

The winery provides the music, wine tasting, and a tour of the place. All you have to do is pack some food, drinks, blanket chairs or whatever else you want to bring! We brought some snacks & wine and our blanket to camp out on! We had a wonderful time, not to mention we have some new favorite wines that are locally made! Perfect! Here are some pictures of us while at the winery...

i love, Love, LOVE my picnic basket my MIL gave me : ) : ) : )

Another pic of my basket! It's just too adorable not to have another!

And of course, fireworks...

We had SO much fun and can't wait to go back! We are hoping to go in August too!

Almost Back : )

It is almost time when I can return back to the blogging world : )...among other areas of my life that do not include graduate school! Woo Hooooo!!! Right now I am sitting here in the library on campus awaiting my time to complete my physical exam. Unfortunately, I  have 2 1/2 hours until that time arrives : ( I am just sooooo ready to get this behind me and get back to my normal routine. It really stinks I have had so much time off from work but really nothing to show for it...oh well...I will tackle those projects this weekend before returning to the ole' job.

I am actually feeling pretty calm right now. Not too nervous. I have a wonderful husband who has been SO willing to be my practice patient about 1,000 times now, ha! He is so amazing to have given up so much of his free time to help me, thanks babe : ) Now if I can just not be nervous when I walk in the room and take my time, I think I will be fine...hopefully! So, if anyone catches this post soon, prayers between 1:00-2:00 will be MUCH appreciated! Please and thank you : )

So I am hoping to post tomorrow about our 4th fof July celebration! And I have a couple of other things to post over the next few days. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend, and for those of us in the South...stay COOL!!! It is soooo HOT out there!

Sometimes I feel like a NUT!

I have been having a total off week this past week!!! I have no clue what has gotten into me, but I have had the most unproductive week of my life this past week : ( well, I guess with the exception of yesterday...and Saturday...but anyways

I have had a good bit of time off but definitely have not used it wisely! I have been just SO exhausted and blah feeling...ever get like that? I think its mostly stress...from school mostly...I have a HUGE physical exam I must perform this week on campus for my NP class and I have just been totally freaked out about it...although I have NO clue why?!?!? I mean, I am a nurse...I have done this stuff before, like going on 3 years now...I don't baffles me! I guess just knowing I am going to be scrutinized, while on camera might I add, makes me a little uneasy...It's all good though because "this too shall pass!"

Also, I apparently now have insomnia : ( I can't sleep for more than 3-4 hours! And OMG!...that is sooooo frustrating to just lay in bed for hours, exhausted no doubt, but with no relief from sleep in sight : ( Hopefully this will pass after this week is over and I have this school stuff behind me!!!

On a good quiet time this morning included this verse...

"Also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope."                                       Romans 5:3-4

Just what I needed to hear!!! Sorry this turned out being a little whiny post but I needed to vent a little and well...I feel better : ) Also, wanted you guys to know that we haven't fallen off the face of the Earth or anything...just been a weirdo week! However, we did have a great time this past weekend for Independence Day : ) I will post about that in the near future but not sure when...

Unfortunately, I will probably go a little MIA again these next few days because of school, but I plan on returning this weekend relaxed, revitalized, and rejuvenated!!! Have a GREAT week everyone : )

"Take it easy" Thursday

We finally got a day off together today : ) I have worked almost every day since our lake vacay so Mikey and I have hardly seen each other since then. It was great to get to just hang out even if we didn't really do anything too exciting! So, today we took our first trip to Whole Foods!!!

I have been wanting to go forever but just never made it to that side of town. After Mikey got out of class this afternoon that is what I decided I wanted to do...take a trip to Whole Foods! Pretty much my most favorite store now!!! I wish I could afford to shop there all the time, but it will be fun to visit every now and then : ) This is what it looked like when we first walked in...

How could you not fall in love with a produce section that looks like that!? It was great!!! I loved everything about it and will definitely be back! We decided to just pick up some snacks from here and head to the park downtown for a dinner picnic : ) It was sooooo relaxing!!! We even fell asleep and took a mini nap...awesome!!!

This is a picture of our mini picnic dinner : )

We bought some yummy spinach artichoke dip, a turkey wrap, spicy pimento cheese, and some
to-die-for chocolate cake! was SO GOOD : ) We also bought a bottle of peach wine that is made right here around Birmingham! Can't wait to try it : )

It was a wonderful afternoon and I can't wait to do it again! Well, I better finish our night off we are heading for Starbucks and the bookstore...*perfect*
