Lovely Weekend

I have kinda neglected the blogging world these past few days : / Most definitely not intentionally, just been spending time with my honey : ) Oh let's see...what have we been up to these past couple of days? Well, Friday was mostly spent sleeping...for me anyway. I did workout Friday morning after work, running is still going well...Friday night we had an old school trip to Pizza Hut for, we dined in. So I thought nobody really ate inside Pizza Hut anymore, except for lunch buffet of course...But I was definitely wrong. It was very busy, but worth the was yummy! After dinner we headed to get some MUCH needed groceries which we never ended up eating ANY of until tonight! That's pretty much it for Friday...

Saturday: Well, I was up at the booty crack of dawn of course. I hate it when I wake up at 4 or 5 a.m. and can't go back to sleep...side effects of working night shift I guess. However, I did get a lot accomplished. I had a wonderful quiet time with my coffee, scrubbed the kitchen and did laundry...all before 8:00!!! Here comes the GREAT part of Saturday...

I have been putting off filing our taxes until the last minute because we were going to owe...or so we thought...I was just going to organize everything, enter into the computer then wait to actually file it in April. But it turns out we are getting a REFUND!!!!!!!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could NOT be more thankful for this little surprise!!!!! And it's all because of school...who knew!? I think Turbo Tax said it is cool, ha!

Today: We went to church...wonderful as always! We were going to try a Sunday School today but since I won't be able to attend next Sunday (because of work), we decided to wait a couple of weeks. I just didn't want to show up and then not come back, ha! After church we found a lovely little Italian cafe` that was scrumptious!!! I think it might have to become a Sunday lunch regular! We then shopped around a little. We are still working on purchasing things for the living room (more to come soon...) so we were on a mission to find things for that room today...we did pretty well : ) Once we get the living room put together...maybe in a week or so I will post pictures!

So, I have a freshly grilled steak waiting on me. Then...I am FINALLY getting to try Cheesecake Factory's Red Velvet Cheesecake....ooohhhhh, I CAN'T WAIT!!!! So...I better GO!!!

Oh, I almost forgot...

Pictures of the china cabinet...We don't have anything in it yet, but we will later this week : )

The Next Door

"The Great Commandment"
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these."
Mark 12:30-31

I mentioned earlier this week about some exciting things starting at church. This post is about one of them. The Next Door: That They May Believe is a 40-day devotional book designed to help you focus on praying for your neighbors. Melody Allred, an HSBC member and the author of this book explains how through deepening her relationship in Christ and loving God more (The Great Commandment), she also realized she should be "loving her neighbor as herself " as the Lord commands us. She began to think and realize how many people in her own neighborhood could be lost and headed for Hell. Melody's story is told in the beginning of the book.

As a church, the members that have chosen to, have made a commitment to complete this devotional book and PRAY for our neighbors for 40 days! What an impact that can be made with this many people praying together! Yesterday, February 24 was Day 1 of this 40 day journey and I am SO excited to see what oppotunities and doors are opened as a result of this committment.

As you know, we just moved into our neighborhood and unfortunately I don't know any of our neighbors! I know that as I pray the Lord will show me opportunities to get to know my neighbors in a natural way : ) Of course, you don't have to only pray for your neighbors. This can be a prayer for ANYONE who doesn't know Jesus Christ and needs to learn about salvation. The book is just a great illustration of how we have a mission field in our very own backyards! I have never committed myself to anything like this before and I am SO excited to be a part of something so wonderful!

If any of you are interested in learning more about this, check it out HERE!

On a totally different note...I haven't posted in the last couple of days just because not much is happening here. Just work and the same old, same old...As for the china cabinet, it is still a work in progress. Hopefully it will be finished tomorrow, but I will definitely post pictures sometime this weekend! I am working tonight, then off all weekend : ) I hope you all have a fabulous Thursday...tomorrow is FRIDAY...WOO HOO!!!!

Sleepy Weekend

I do regret that I have to confess I slept for most of my weekend off : ( I'm not sure why I was SO exhausted but I definitely was! It wasn't the kind of lazy, lay around keep falling was the i'm OUT like a light bulb for hours kind of sleep! I hate it when I do this, but sometimes I guess my body just needs to recover from my weird schedule I have it running on.

I did make it to the gym Saturday morning after work. I continue to impress myself with running! I have tried to become a runner several times always failing because I just really didn't  have the drive to push myself. Well, I am afraid that I might be becoming slighty addicted! I want to do it all the time now, but I am NOT because I do not want to get burned out or injure myself. I know my body needs time to recover, especially since this is something new for me.

Although my trip to the gym Saturday was a success, the rest of the day was NOT! I slept and slept and slept basically until the next morning : ( I feel SOOOOO bad when I do this! I did lay in bed and chat with Mikey for a couple of hours but that was the best I could do. Sorry Babe! Mikey however was very productive, re-roofing his shop all day! At least someone is this household made use of such a BEAUTIFUL Saturday!

Sunday was a nice day, but it flew by! We headed to church, had lunch at our FAV mexican restaurant (YUM!), ran by a couple of stores then back home. It was another GORGEOUS day outside! We took the pups on a walk, then watched TV for about an hour, then we headed back to church for a membership class. I am SO pleased to announce that after 2 years, when are finally OFFICIALLY members of Hunter Street Baptist Church!

It took so long because when we had opposite schedules we could never make it to the membership info class (a requirement to become a member). But now we finally have an official church home : ) And I couldn't be happier! I am really excited about some things starting up at church but I will share those with you later. This post is getting to be a little long...about nothing, ha!

Lastly, I know I promised a finished china cabinet with pictures, but we are having a hard time finding the stain we want to use. So...I am posting the pictures of it in the "middle stage" I guess you could say. These pictures were taken after it got sanded and ready to stain. I can't wait for the finished product!

Well, I'm off to clean up a little before work the next two nights. I hope everyone had a great Monday!

Chicago Bound!

In exactly 15 weeks and 6 days Mikey and I will be in CHICAGO!!!!!!!!! I am SOOOOO excited! I am a VERY inexperienced traveler and I want to see every place new, but Chicago has been on the top of my list for a while...not as high up as NYC, but I digress...

Mikey has always been a HUGE Cubs fan...still trying to figure out why, ha! (j/k Honey!) and I have been wanting to take him to a Cubs game for a while but never really committed to actually planning it and saving the money. Well, now we are committed and saving : ) We have tickets, Cubs shirts on the way and a hotel booked! I have never truly picked a MLB team so maybe this will sway my decision...besides Mikey has been working on me for a few years now. And...I did manage to turn him into a BAMA fan : )

I cannot wait to take this trip! We chose to drive to save money rather than fly, so that in itself will be very interesting, ha! It's gonna be such an awesome time : )

So, our project the past couple of days has been refinishing a china cabinet we bought. We have been looking for one for probably about a year now and I FINALLY found one like I wanted a couple of weeks ago on craiglist! I was SO pumped! Mikey has been working hard to make it look GREAT and tomorrow we are going to stain it! I think it is going to be B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! We shall see... So here are some before pictures. These are the pictures that were posted on craigslist so they aren't great, but they get the job done.

The AFTER pictures are soon to come : ) Mikey also put up crown moulding in our bedroom this past week. It looks SO good! I can't believe how talented my hubby is! I might post some pictures of that too later this weekend.
I am off tonight and Sunday! I am hitting the gym this morning after work, rest a while then who knows...I'll fill ya in later this weekend! Hope you all have a FABULOUS and beautiful weekend!

A Few Days Late...

This post is a continuation of Sunday's post...

Related to our story of having to VERY unexpectedly stay in a hotel 5 minutes from our house Friday night, I forgot all about the HUGE mess we came home to early the next morning! When we walked into our kitchen it looked like this...

Paper Towel EVERYWHERE!!!!

Toby has always had a fetish with any type of paper products (and chapstick!) we are pretty sure we know who broke into the pantry and started this party! But I am positive that Toby and Charlie both took part in this fun! Ellie, not so's just not her style : ) All we really could do was laugh because we felt so bad that we had to just leave them all alone all night : ( It doesn't seem to appear they were too upset about it though ; ) Glad to know they entertained themselves.

On a second note...Valentine's Day! I told you that Mikey made me such a sweet card and I took pictures, but never got around to posting them. Well, here they are!

I LOVE my hubby SO much! I know I say that ALL the time on my blog, but I really do feel truly blessed to have such a person in my life : ) He makes me a better person and I love him so much for that! I can't wait to spend many, MANY more Valentines' together : )

We have these next couple of days to hang out (FINALLY!!!!) so I might or might not get around to posting til the end of the week. I am looking forward to spending some QT with my honey and working around our house : )

My Reading List: Cold Tangerines

I just finished another good book! Cold Tangerines by Shauna Niequist is a very cute little book : ) This is her first book...hopefully first of many! One (of the many) things I really liked about this book was that it is a collection of "short stories" I guess you could say, which makes it easy to read at work. The book is basically a reflection of the author's life experiences. It made sound a little boring, but it's not. The way she recounts her experiences are not only funny, but personal, making her easy to relate to. SO many of her stories made me feel like "Wow, she feels like that too!?" With this book it seems she opens up her heart to her readers allowing them to see her flaws, in turn saying "It's okay to not be perfect."

She demonstrates her love for God, family, her friends, and just life in general all throughout this book. Each of her stories have something to teach about life. I felt such a sense of being understood when I read her stories because I felt like she was saying the words that I am thinking but couldn't articulate. Every story I read inspired me to want to be a better person and to pay more attention to details in life. She reminded me of how much life you can miss out on when you just get too far deep into the everyday "routine" of life and forget to appreciate the little things...which I often do : ( This time in my life was a perfect time for me to read this book. Since Mikey lost his job, I have been working so much that I have just been focused on sleeping before the next shift and not much else, missing so many opportunites I had to do other things! EVERYday is a gift from God and we should cherish that. In this book, Shauna Niequist has encouraged me to be thankful for everyday I have! Even on the days I have to work, I should be thankful for the opportunity I had to get an education, to have a job, and be thankful that I have this chance to serve others.

Okay, I feel like I'm getting all deep and preachy and stuff, ha! My point is...this is a great book. It's inspiring, encouraging, and always offers me a little bit of hope with every experience the author shares. It's a book of simple reading that can be read quickly or over a long period of time. I definitely recommend it : ) Her next book is due to release this fall and I can't wait!

A Weekend Gone Bad

Have you ever had a day, or a weekend in our case, that just takes a turn for the worse and goes WAY off the beaten path? Unfortunately, that's what happened to us this weekend.

Friday night we decided to go grab some dinner, run by TJ Maxx, then pick up groceries on the way home. After we ate a quick dinner and spent about 20 minutes in TJ Maxx we decided to just head home for the night. Well...that never happened! EVERY interstate, overpass, and pretty much every road that took us home was closed! Apparently the roads were starting to ice over. I do understand this action was only to protect the lives of Birmingham, but some warning would have been nice! We watched the news until it was over (BEFORE we left the house), and there was NO mention of ANY future plans to close the roads...even though they knew it was snowing and below freezing! It was still never mentioned on the radio...EVER that night! UGH!

Needless to say we spent a good chunk of money in a hotel room only a few minutes from our house : ( We had no clothes, toothbrushes, NOTHING! So, I thought well at least I will go to bed fairly early and get a good nights' rest...NOPE! I slept 3 hours...that's IT! And laid awake from 2:30 a.m. until I could wake Mikey about 6:00 to get some breakfast. We got home about 8:00 a.m. when we crashed! We were both totally exhausted! (Although, this was very unfortunate, however I am very thankful we were safe!)

Pictures of us hanging out in the hotel room...

Of course we only had our phones, so no good quality pictures here

I had planned for us to shop around for some things for the house together Saturday, and then have our Valentine's Day dinner Saturday night. Since we didn't really get to bed until 8:00 that morning we of course slept most of the day away : ( We did grab a few groceries and get a casual dinner but nothing like what I had wanted to do : (

And this brings us to today...Aunt Flo decided to come visit a day early and wake me up with excrutiating cramps, ugh! So...We missed church because I couldn't get myself out of bed cause I was hurting so bad : ( That's not an excuse for missing church, but it is my sad reason. Since I didn't sleep well due to being woken up VERY early with pain, and I had to work tonight I stayed in bed until about 1:30 p.m...and wasted the day yet AGAIN : ( However, I DID get two loads of laundry clean, folded and put away...counts for something, right!?

So, like I said...weekend totally went off the deep end : ( But that's okay, life happens. On the other hamd, I am VERY grateful to have a WONDERFUL husband that I was able to spend most of Valentine's Day with : ) He MADE me a super sweet card (he is SO sentimental ; ) and bought us a new lens for our camera : ) I took pictures of my sweet card, but forgot to upload them. I will do that tomorrow...maybe. Anywho, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY MIKEY!!!!!!!!!! I love you with ALL my heart!!!!!!!

Work In Progress

We have been very SLOWLY putting together our new little home : ) Mikey is making a good bit of furniture and other things (rather than buying) for our house so of course it's taking a little time...but it's TOTALLY worth it!!! I love having my own personal carpenter, ha! We ALWAYS have tons of ideas and pictures running through our head of what we want in every room. We get so excited about everything we want to do in every room that we do one thing in one room, then jump to another room, so on and so forth...

We decided to focus on ONE area at a time : ) And we started we our living room. We still have several projects to tackle in this room but we are making progress. I asked Mikey to make me some "floating" shelves for some pictures and "knick knacky" type stuff. He did a GREAT ALWAYS : )

Of course I have pictures to show. So enjoy!

My "floating" shelves

Don't worry...we are gonna get some WAY cooler things to display : ) this is just some things we had around

Trying to give an idea of that side of the room...(haven't worked on the fireplace yet)...stay tuned

Still gotta get a real table...working on that : )

There ya go...a sneak preview of what's to come! Although, my poor excuse for photography does NOT even come close to doing our {soon-to-be super cozy} room justice. Can't wait to move on to our next project : )

This is AWESOME!

I know many of you probably follow Kelly which is where I copied this from but I thought it was worth sharing for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. These are all perfect examples of how God DOES have a plan for you, and it is worth waiting for!!! I am left thinking of what my cardboard testimony is...What's yours?

Show Us Your Life - Beauty Tips and Favorite Products

I don't really have any beauty tips because I am by NO means a makeup artist!!! FAR from it! However I do have some favorite products that I swear by! I have had terrible acne problems in the past (even was on accutane for a while...ugh) so I was forced to find skin care products and makeup that kept my skin moisturized, but not too much and also makeup that covered well but didn't clog my pores and/or feel "heavy"...gross!

I will start first with my skin care...

I LOVE Philosophy products!!! I use these two cleansers, the exfoliating wash in the morning, and the purity wash at night. They are SO mild and feel GREAT!

I use this moisturizer day and night! LOVE it!

This is my MOST FAVORITE product EVER! This goes over the moisturizer but under make-up. It makes your face SO smooth and the make-up stays on ALL day! Or all night in my case...for 12 hours!!!  By far the best productive EVER made!

As far as make-up goes, I wear Bare Minerals. I love it because it covers well, is light and good for your skin! They have tons of choices and it's just FUN to visit a Base Essenctuals store! I love beauty products though...I'm a total girly girl : )

Can't wait to check out what everybody else's tips : )

My Reading List: The Shack

I have always loved to read...I remember when I was a little girl I would get SO frustrated with the library for only letting me check out 6 books at a time...NERD, I know, ha! I spent so many summer days in the library all day while my mommy worked (right down the road) and i LOVED it! My love for reading never "went away" per say, but I guess when you get into high school it's just not as "cool" of a hobby as let's say cheerleading, dance, talking on the phone, movies, or whatever it was you did back in those days. And then in college of course I did TONS of reading, but not what I would have chosen to read.

After I graduated from college a couple of years ago, I started reading again...for fun! And it felt weird! I swear for months after I was finally a nurse, I had to figure out how to have hobbies again. I almost felt guilty for not studying...for something!!! I know that sounds stupid but my nurse friends will understand : )

The first books I really remember reading after school was the Twilight series. I jumped on this bandwagon WAY late. I thought I would NEVER read books about vampires...who does that anyway!?!?!? Honestly, I'm really not a fan of fiction but after I kept hearing EVERYONE talk about this series I thought, well...I at least have to see what the big deal is. So...yeah, you know how it goes...I completely LOVED these books. I'm still not sure's totally not me to like something so NOT real, but what can I say...they're just GOOD!!! I would say if you haven't read the Twilight series yet to go for it, but I was so far behind everyone on these that I'm sure you've all read it...if you are at all interested.

Now, finally to the whole point of this post. I just finished a book called The Shack by William P. Young. I don't want to say what it's about, because I don't want to ruin it for anyone who wants to check it out. This is a Christian fiction book. Honestly, I wasn't too sure about it at first. It gives you a VERY different perspective of God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but it helped me grasp the idea of the Trinity SO much more! It really touched my heart and made me think about my relationship with Jesus. So, if you're up for it I definitely recommend this book to you!!!

I am having my "weekend" these next couple of days since I will be working Saturday, Sunday and Monday. But of course it is suppose to rain every day that I'm off...ugh!...ALWAYS! So, I guess it will be a couple of cleaning and reading days. I hope you are having a great week so far!

One Beautiful Day Closer to SUMMER!

Well, I will take one day closer to SPRING! It is a GORGEOUS day outside! Although I am pretty bummed that I have to work tonight, I am happy that I got to enjoy this beautiful day today! I was going to head to the gym this afternoon while Mikey was in class, but I'm just afraid I might run out of time to get ready for work. Instead, we headed outside to take the pups on a walk, or if you are Charlie...a run!

Silly, silly dog

An apple an day keeps the vet away : )

Toby LOVES LOVES LOVES going on walks

Running with their Dad...Ellie stays with her Mommy : )

See, here we are : )

Charlie loved it too

Ellie is a little more "low key" ; )

That is one S-E-X-Y man if I do say so myself...LOVE him : )

I hope the end of the week has in store some beautiful weather like today did! I hope everyone had a great Monday!
